Yeah, companies who offer an individual contributor career route partially solve the non-fitting managers issue. But the 2nd part is the prestige around the manager position, that brings some of the wrong people.

100% agree with this: "people who make the most effective managers as they recognise that they are there to facilitate the effectiveness of their staff."
